Question
marketing

I have taken several general business courses here at Kent State University, and I have heard several comments made by professors on the field of marketing.  A lot of them kid about Marketing not being a real business major, and joke about it not being entirely necessary.  Obviously, being Business Professors, they are not serious, but hearing this from more than one expert rises the question, is Marketing held at an equal rate of importance as all the other fields of business in a corporation?
Marketing hits all aspects of functional, strategical, and social aspects of business, and is all about communicating with customers. Some say it is more of a public relations

Scope Of History
marketing

History of Marketing is still going on today, the economy is ever changing and will continue to change the ways of advertising.  The first concept of marketing product to increase revenues occurred in the early 1900s.  The invention of the radio, newspapers, fliers, television, to all of the electronic devices we have today constantly change marketing strategies.  The reason the history of marketing began in the early 1900s is because of the lack of communication between buy and seller.  With the first World War, a lot of problems arose in American homes, and a lot of inventions and products came out to serve those problems.  Businesses needed to find a way to reach out to their customers and beat out the competition.  Still going on today, are commercials and infomercials showing how well products work.  The most recent style of advertising is ecommerce, which is another example showing that marketing is changes with economic growth, demand, and technology.

"Ten Events That Transformed Marketing History" is an article that lists 10 events in the USA and the World, that changed the way we do business today.  It explains why it changed everything in chronological order from the earliest incident to the latest.
Association of National Advertisers (ANA) was established in 1910, this year is its century anniversary.  In 1914, THE AUDIT BUREAU OF CIRCULATIONS was formed because of the "murky" communication between the ANA.  This improved advertising associations and over all revolutionized the industry.  In 1922 the radio was invented which broadened the communication level between buyer and seller immensely.

Later the Television was invented, which allowed views to physically see the advertisements and visualize using the product. Then after The Great Depression, there was government intervention because of the ads promoting and demoting war.  A little later there were taxes put onto advertisements, which didn’t make Corporations happy.  They retaliated but still to this day have to pay them.

Closer to the present, there was the invention of the video devices, internet, and cell phones.  This allowed advertising to broaden in the most creative of ways.  Video devices allowed demonstrations of products and VCRs and DVDs became handy.  Internet could have advertisements that reach potential clients across the world.

Technology and the Industrial Revolution have changed marketing strategies for the better and have made informative advertisements for customers easier to view. I want to use this source to show a time line of events that changed how Marketing is utilized today.

This source covers where the first Marketing idea originated and why.  The first group of people who first brought up the idea were economists.  Naturally, they would find this idea, because they study changes in the market and causes.  They also study trends and fads and why products fail to sell. Bartell believes that Marketing is more of a social institution, in which it must be considered before dropping a product on the Markets heads.  Things to consider are society, trends, demographics, psychographics, geographics, environmental factors etc.

The Marketing concept went through stages of integrations such as the Period of Discovery, Conceptualization, Integrations, Development, Reappraisal, Re-conceptualization, and Differentiation.

Marketing is the activity, set of institutions, and processes for creating, communicating, delivering, and exchanging offerings that have value for customer, clients, partners, and society at large according to The American Marketing Association.

For example, why would Southern California have a store dedicated to selling winter sports gear? They are reaching out to a very small cliental in their area, because the climate they are accustomed to is not winter. This is a marketing idea gone wrong.  You want to sell items that give the customers purchasing power and desire to buy the most.  Marketing is soley to boost revenue and reputation of the company.

The Industrial Revolution was one of the biggest revolutionary changes for Marketing, because that is when companies started to market to the whole world through internet.  This changed company spending, and brought a whole new mind set towards reaching its customers.

Day 1 of class
marketing

I am thinking about writing about today's world market. I am an undecided major, but Marketing is one of my top choices. Marketing has always interested me. How businesses reach out to their clientel indirectly and indirectly can be the way a corporation prospers.  From face-to-face selling to e-commerce marketing, I want to find out what the most successful way to reach customers is and why.  What does it depend on?  I feel like it has alot to do with psychographics and demographics.

I also want to learn why the marketing department is so crucial to sell a product.  I want to know the divisions in that department and who is chosen in those departments.  I want to know this, because I want to learn the different job opprotunities of my "maybe" major.  It is important to me that there is job opprotunity when I graduate in my feild. I want to learn more about to see if I actually want to pursue it in my college career and life after.

Business has alot to do with marketing youself to other people and firms to get jobs.  I feel that marketing majors have specific traits that take them to the next level in their jobs.  I want to know those specific traits. Mostly, because I want to know if I have them, and also to see why I would need them and how they would help my in my career.

This paper will hopefully help me decide one of the most important decisions of my life.  I want to touch on every topic that will help me make that decision within the Marketing feild.
